Girls Varsity Track Keeps Pace
Victoria Chimento runs a strong leg in the 4x800.
The GC girls went to the Armory in Manhattan one last time this indoor season and competed in the 14th Annual New Balance Games. The meet attracts many of the top relay teams from the Tri-State and Pennsylvania area, our girls being one of them.
The New Balance Games is a showcase for some of the best relay teams and Coaches Fregosi and Skrivanek sent several of our foursomes to the track and they didn't disappoint. The 4x800 meter team of Liz Slattery, Michelle Rotondo, Jenna DeAngelo and Emily Menges produced a season best and a number 4 in the country to date with a time of 9:20.87. In the sprint medley relays, the quartet of Taylor Hennig, Catherine Cafaro, Taryn Schmelzinger and Michelle Rotondo finished third with a time of 4:19.23, while the team of Jenna DeAngelo, Laura Martens, Alexis Yeboah-Kodie and Liz Slattery finished tenth with a time of 4.26.57. Some terrific finishes considering the field had 63 teams running.
Tonight you can watch one of GC Track's finest, Emily Menges, run in the high school invitational mile on ESPN2 at 7:00 at the 102nd running of the Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden.
Taryn Schmelzinger with a lightening fast 200 in the SMR.
Next Wednesday the team goes to Suffolk Community College aiming for the Class A County Championship.
