A Word From The Publisher

2009-01-30 / Letters

This week there will be a runoff election in the Eastern section, as readers will see by perusing the very long "Letters" section this week. Voting will take place at Stewart School on Tuesday, February 3rd from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Any resident of the East may vote (with photo and signature ID) regardless of their membership in the EPOA.

Although there are many letters for each candidate, we think the letter that makes the most sense is the one from Craig Biscone. Mr. Biscone points out that both candidates are highly capable people who are bright and community minded. He suggests that either candidate would be a credit to the community and that residents of the East should look past any negativity and choose based on the candidates positions on the issues.

Both candidates have written letters for this week's issues, as well as paid advertising pages outlining their ideas and positions. We hope residents of the East find these helpful in making a decision.

As many residents of the East know, there will be a number of critical decisions to be made in coming years. In addition to the fate of St. Paul's there is also a proposal by the county to run light rail lines through the East, as well as a proposal to enlarge the Covanta facility and the proposed nine story condominium complex which is to be built on Old Country Road. While these decisions will affect the entire village, they much of the impact will be felt in the East, so it's particularly important to choose a strong trustee.
