Girls Varsity Track
Jenna DeAngelo around the turn and leading.
The girls turned in another solid performance at their Crossover meet at Suffolk Community College a week ago Tuesday to close out 2008. Facing competition from Conference rivals the girls ran and jumped to several wins and many other good showings, even with a small squad. In the high jump, Michelle Rotondo took first place with a jump of 5 feet. She then came back and took first in the 55m hurdles with a personal best time of 9.4 seconds. On the straightaway in the 55m sprint, Taryn Schmelzinger made it to the finals with a personal best run of 7.5 seconds and took fourth place. In the 300 meters, Tara Mahon and Victoria Chimento tied for fourth with a time of 45.6 and in the 600m it was Jenna DeAngelo capturing first with a time of 1:46.6, while Victoria Chimento and Liz Slattery tied for 4th with a time of 1:48.3. And in the shot put Caroline Hohlman had a fourth place finish with a toss of 27'5.5". Based on performances like these, Newsday has ranked the girls as the number three team on Long Island - a number that will hopefully drive them even harder in the coming weeks to be number one at year end!

This coming weekend Coach Fregosi will take a contingent of runners and travel up to New Hampshire for the 49th Annual Dartmouth Relays; while coaches Skrivanek and Lucas will take a team to the Armory in Manhattan for the 15th Annual Hispanic Games, one of the more widely attended meets in the city. Then next week it will be on to the Conference Championship Meet on Tuesday and the Millrose Games Trials on Wednesday. Good Luck and bring home some gold!
