CPOA Nominates Laura Hastings For Board Of Education

Laura A. Hastings was the majority choice of the CPOA Nominating Committee for the position of School Board Trustee At-Large for a three year term commencing in July 2009. Ms. Hastings is an attorney in good standing, having been admitted and licensed to practice law in New York State since 1990. After clerking for the Honorable Thomas C. Platt, Chief Judge of the United States District Court in the Eastern District of New York, Ms. Hastings was a commercial litigator in the New York office of Morrison & Foerster, LLP and subsequently at a Manhattan litigation boutique which has since merged into the firm of Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP. Ms. Hastings earned her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School where she was valedictorian of the class of 1989. She earned her B.A. from Yale in 1986 where she ran for the Yale women's track team.

Ms. Hastings and her husband Brad O'Neill have lived in Garden City since 1996. They have two daughters, Katie, a seventh grader at the Garden City Middle School, and Emily, a fifth grader at Stratford Avenue School. Ms. Hastings has been a PTA volunteer serving on the World Language Committee that initiated the teaching of foreign language in the elementary schools as well as on the site base team for Homestead School. Before her children entered the Garden City Public School system, she was actively involved in the Garden City Nursery School serving as their President as well as various fundraising and other positions. In addition, Ms. Hastings is an active Yale alumna, conducting interviews on behalf of the admissions office for a number of years as well as being a supporter of the Yale women's track team.

Hastings as candidate for School Board Trustee At-Large: Tom Simpson, Chairperson, Daniel Karas, Vice Chairperson, and committee members H. Arthur Anderson, Kathleen Horton, Wayne Muscarella, and Joseph J.Ortego.
