      The Garden City Middle School Winter Concert III, originally scheduled for January 15 has been moved to January 29 due to midterms week and ELA testing.

Transportation Deadline
      Residents of the Garden City School District who plan to send their children to a non-public school for the 2009-2010 school year must request transportation. The maximum distance a child will be transported is 15 miles. In order to be eligible, an application must be filed on or before April 1, 2009. Late requests will not be honored.

St. Joseph School Takes Rachel's Challenge
      "You may just start a chain reaction." St. Joseph School, spearheaded by their Student Council, teamed up with other local Catholic grade schools in hopes of living up to the motto of this organization started to honor Rachel Scott. Miss Scott was the first victim of the Columbine High School massacre on April 20, 1999.

Hoedown At Stratford School
      There was a hoedown for the kindergarteners and first graders of Garden City! The program, "American Footsteps," was performed by Foot and Fiddle at Stratford Elementary on Tuesday, December 2nd. The performers shared the stage with student volunteers and a few brave teachers for a real square dance hoedown.

      Saint Joseph School of Garden City, which is devoted to integrating the teachings of the Catholic faith within a creative and stimulating learning environment, is hosting an Open House on Sunday, January 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., for Nursery through Grade 8.

      The artwork and class work from St. Joseph School will be featured in the display cases during the month of January. When you are enjoying the library, stop by the display area located by the circulation desk for a sampling of the children's work. All are welcome to attend the 9am Mass on January 25th to kick off the beginning of Catholic Schools Week.

      Stratford music students, led by teachers Ms. Meredith Stillwell (chorus), Mr. Nicholas Geluso (orchestra) and Ms. Karyn Glickman (band), with production assistance by Mr. Richard Madden and his students, held their annual Winter Concert at Garden City High School on Thursday, December 4th.

GCHS Students Assist At Soup Kitchen
      Under the direction of advisor Diane Veitch, the Human Awareness/Habitat for Humanity Club at Garden City High School recently delivered food to the Mary Brennan Soup Kitchen in Hempstead. While there, the high school students volunteered their time to help organize and arrange food for the soup kitchen's holiday guests.

Third Grader Performs
      Madison Mullahey, a third grade student at Stewart School, is excited to be performing in The Aristocats at BroadHollow Theatre in Elmont. Madison most recently played the role of Molly in BroadHollow's production of Annie. Madison is thrilled to be playing the role of Marie (an Aristokitten).

German Club Gets Visit From Sankt Nikolaus
      On Friday, December 5, Nikolaus made a stop at a meeting of the Middle School German Club. Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students (yes, even eighth graders!) each placed one of their shoes outside the classroom where the meeting was held, and then went inside to watch a film about holiday celebrations in German-speaking countries and to enjoy some breakfast pastries.

Garden City Primary Schools Celebrate Winter Festivals
      Dressed in their holiday finest, kindergarten and first grade students at Garden City's Hemlock, Locust and Homestead Schools performed at their annual Winter Festivals during the week prior to the holiday recess. The students, under the direction of music teacher, Mrs. Katherine Riker, sang holiday favorites for attending parents, grandparents and siblings.
