County Clerk O'Connell Comes To Garden City
The Garden City Republican Club will kick off the New Year with County Clerk Maureen O'Connell as its guest speaker, January 14, at the Garden City Senior Recreation Center at 8 PM. All residents are welcome to attend and enjoy hearing insights about our County and how the implementation of enhanced technology at the Clerk's office may impact you and or your business.
Many will recall that Maureen O'Connell served Garden City as our State Assemblywoman from 1998 to 2005,and then she was elected to the Office of Nassau County Clerk. During her tenure as our Assemblywoman, Maureen distinguished herself as the Ranking Member of the Assembly Health Committee as well as delivering a high standard of constituent service and sound legislation improving our quality of life. She has continued in that direction as our County Clerk.
Her interesting background began with her devotion to helping others and she embarked on a career in the nursing profession. With an ever present eye toward being the best one can be, Maureen obtained her B.S. degree in Health Care Administration and worked as a Registered Nurse designing and implementing a pilot program for the home-based management of cancer patients of North Shore University Hospital.
She completed her formal education at St. John's University School of Law and later combining her knowledge of law and health administration by concentrating her legal practice in compatible areas. She is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association and has served on the many advocacy committees, as well as numerous non-profit endeavors.
Having also served as Trustee and Deputy Mayor of the Incorporated Village of East Williston, Maureen is no stranger to returning to a grassroots effort to get things accomplished. Touted always being a consensus builder, Maureen remains respected and admired by those who work with her both in government and in the community. Her goal as County Clerk is to maintain and, where possible, enhance the level of service provided to the public within an efficient and secure manner.
Club President, Edward Cumming commented, "We are fortunate to have Maureen O'Connell as our first speaker of the year as she is a dynamic speaker and brings both experience and enthusiasm to us. This is the perfect way to start the next political cycle of the New Year." The Club will have refreshments and members to welcome neighbors and friends on Wednesday, January 14.
