ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 10, The Garden City Bird Sanctuary is instituting a yearly celebration of the spirit of volunteerism, environmental stewardship and hope that represents some of the best qualities in all people. Winterfest will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. It's short in duration and deep in significance. It will remind us that there is reason to have hope for the future because there are many people of good will who care about the planet and the next generation. There will be some warm cocoa and bulb plantings culminating in a candle-lighting ceremony which will celebrate and recognize the gifts in all our supporters. The first of a series of holiday evergreen trees will also be dedicated and you'll have a chance to hang a bird feeder and decorations for our wildlife friends. Meet at the main entrance opposite 181 Tanners Pond Rd. Rain, snow or shine. Bring a candle or some bird seed... ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 11, the Waldorf School of Garden City is holding an Open House, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Early Childhood through grade 12. Call 742-3434, ext. 129 for information. ON JANUARY 2, at Lord and Taylor, a /Franklin Square woman reported that someone damaged her car. Approximately $200 in damages... ON JANUARY 5, a Jericho man was arrested for alleged petit larceny from the GC Hotel. He had allegedly taken 25 mini liquor bottles from a room... ON DECEMBER 19, there was a larceny from a car. A GPS was stolen from an unlocked car in a driveway at Mullberry Ave. Value was $225... ON JANUARY 1, someone broke St. Paul's Field House windows valued at $800... ON DECEMBER 31, therewas an arrest for DWI. A 22-year-old Franklin Square man, drove on Cherry Valley Ave with an alleged BAC of .10% BAC, and he was allegedly also speeding, and allegedly failed to maintain lane. His insurance had expired... ON JANUARY 4, police arrested an 18-year-old Hempstead man at Hilton and Ninth Street. He had left the scene of an auto accident and had non-life threatening injuries. He was also charged with no license and no insurance...On December 29, a grand larceny occurred at Adelphi. A SYOSSET FEMALE left her purse in an unlocked office. Assorted credit cards and $50 were taken... ON THE SAME DAY, police made an Impaired Driving arrest. An 18-year-old Patchogue male was arrested for a .07%BAC at Franklin Ave. Charges also included unsafe lane change, unlicensed op, no insurance... ON DECEMBER 28, police also made a DWI arrest. A 29-year-old Mineola male was driving along Franklin Ave with an alleged BAC of .12%. He also was unlicensed, made an alleged unsafe lane change, and had no insurance, and no tail lights on...
