CPOA Nominates Andrew Cavanaugh For Village Trustee
Andrew J. Cavanaugh was the majority choice of the CPOA Nominating Committee for the position of Village Trustee from the Central Section for the 2009-2011 term. Mr. Cavanaugh, an attorney and business executive, is retired from a lengthy career in corporate management. Most recently, he served as the senior-most administrative officer at The Estee Lauder Companies, and previously held executive positions at Paramount Pictures Corporation and The Equitable Life Assurance Society. He currently is associated with the New York City law firm of McKeegan & Shearer PC as counsel to the firm. He is a graduate of Fordham College, Boston University School of Law and the New York University Graduate School of Law.
Andrew served as a Director of the Central Property Owners' Association from 2001 to 2005, and was the Chairman of the CPOA Ad Hoc Committee on St. Paul's. He has also participated on several Parents' Hiring Review Committees for the Garden City Schools. He is involved in numerous charitable undertakings and served on the Cathedral Council and as Senior Warden for the Cathedral of the Incarnation.
Andrew and his wife Cathleen, who is herself very active in village affairs, have been Village residents since 1991. They currently reside on Cathedral Avenue with their daughter, a student at Sacred Heart Academy and their two sons, who attend Xavier High School in New York City.
When asked for a statement, Andrew said "In the coming months our Village will be challenged with issues that are key to the definition and character of Garden City as a pre-eminent residential community. Some questions (most obviously, the use of the St. Paul's property, but also including other zoning and development projects) are of long standing, and an effort must be made to bring them to a reasoned and timely conclusion. Other issues, deriving from the newly constrained economic environment, are just now arising. Debate regarding the current and future cost of governmental infrastructure is inevitable. I believe that my experience and insight in legal, operational and financial matters in the private sector form a fair basis for addressing these issues on behalf of the residents of the Village."
The following members of the CPOA Nominating Committee brought forth the majority vote for Andrew J. Cavanaugh as candidate for Village Trustee from the Central Section: Tom Simpson, Chairperson, Daniel Karas, Vice Chairperson, and committee members H. Arthur Anderson, Kathleen Horton, Wayne Muscarella, and Joseph J.Ortego.
