Garden City Travel Basketball News
As we break for the holidays many of our travel basketball teams are near the top of their respective divisions in the highly competitve Island Garden Super League. Here's just some of the latest highlights: PRENDERGAST 5TH BOYS won 2 games this week to improve their record to 4-1. The team used a full court press to force many turnovers and score some easy hoops... TULLY 7TH BOYS notched a big win over a tough Syosset squad by playing tenacious team defense. On the offensive side of the ball, Brian Tully, Ethan Gibbons and Ryan Giacini led an up-tempo attack and consistently found the open man, while Jack Lucchesi and Danny Dolan led the scoring... HAYDEN 6TH GIRLS continue their strong defensive play powered by Kerri Ernenwein and Meghan Hayden... GRANVILLE 3RD BOYS won their last 2 Island Garden games improving their record to 7-1.Cole Dutton, Ian Gallagher and Sean Leggett led the way. Not only has the team been successful in Island Garden, the team recently participated in a 4th grade basketball tournament in Elmont hosted by the MDP Patriots. The 3rd grade boys beat two 4th grade teams, MDP Patriots and St. Joe's, before ultimately losing by a slim 4 point margin to a tough Jericho team in the tournament championship game. Brendan McGuire, Liam Muldoon and Colin Crean contributed to the team's success... GRANVILLE 6TH BOYS won their last two Island games improving their record to 3-2. In the first contest the 6th grade squad beat Manhasset by 39-34 and followed that with a victory over the Long Island Shore Shots. Pat Gibbons' shooting, Bobby Clarke's passing and Conor Muldoon's inside presence were keys to the team's victories... BANAHAN 5TH GIRLS, "The Swish", broke into the 'Win' column last week with a strong team effort against the Bayside Bulldogs. Grace Cameron led the offense with her court vision and ball distribution skills. Chloe Stapleford handled the ball deftly as she broke Bayside's full court press. And Sarah Banahan contributed will suffocating defense and good outside shooting... HAMMERSLEY FLYERS continue to show dramatic improvement thanks to the inside play of Mike Flood and Jack Cashwell and the ballhandling of Tim Foxen... RAPHAEL 6TH GIRLS, with only one loss so far this season, have received strong backcourt play from Becky Reifler and outstanding rebounding from Shannon Raphael...
