News From The Children's Room Winter 2009 Registration

Registration for Winter 2009 storytimes and book discussions will begin at 9:30a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2009. Registration can be done online at www.gardencitypl.org or in the Children's Room. Registration for book discussions is in person in the Children's Room only. Registration is open to Garden City residents only for the first two weeks. After January 26, non-residents can register for available spaces. Information regarding storytimes and other upcoming programs is available in the library.

Mother Goose is a 30 minute weekly program for children ages 18-29 months and a parent or caregiver. Sign up for one of the two sessions.

Session I (August 2006 - July 2007):

•Mondays at 10:00AM January 26, February 2, 9, 23, March 2

•Tuesdays at 10:00AM January 27, February 3, 10, 24, March 3

•Thursdays at 10:30AM January 22, 29 February 5,12,26

Session II (October 2006-September 2007):

•Mondays at 10:00AM March 9, 16, 23, 30, April 6

•Tuesdays at 10:00AM March 10, 17, 24, 31, April 7

•Thursdays at 10:30AM March 5, 12, 19, 26, April 2

You and Your Toddler is a thirty minute weekly program for children ages 2 1/2- 3 1/2 (born July 2005 - July 2006) and a parent or caregiver. Sign up for one session only.

•Tuesdays at 11:00AM January 27-April 7

•Thursdays at 11:15AM January 29- April 2

Little Listeners is a thirty minute weekly program for children ages 3-5 (born December 2003-January 2006) without adults. Sign up for one session.

•Mondays at 1:30PM January 26- April 6

•Wednesdays at 11:00AM January 28-April 8

•Thursdays at 12:45PM January 29- April 2

•Thursdays at 1:30PM January 29- April 2

Preschool Storytime is a thirty minute weekly program for children ages 3 1/2- 5 (born December 2003- July 2005) without adults. Sign up for one session only.

•Tuesdays at 1:30PM January 27-April 7

•Wednesdays at 10:00AM January 28- April 8

•Wednesdays at 1:30PM January 28- April 8

Pajama Storytime is a weekly program for children ages 3-6 without adults on Wednesdays, 7:30-8:00PM January 28- April 8.

Kindergarten Storytime is a weekly program for children presently enrolled in Kindergarten. Sign up for either Tuesdays at 3:45-4:30pm (January 27-April 7) or Thursdays 3:45-4:30pm (January 29-April 2).

First Grade Storytime is a weekly program for children presently enrolled in the First Grade on Mondays at 3:45-4:30pm. (January 26-April 6).

Chapter Chat is a book club featuring discussion, snacks, games and fun for Second Graders! Sign up is for three sessions on Wednesdays, 4:00-4:45pm. January 28-Polar Bears Past Bedtime by Mary Pope Osborne, February 11-Horrible Harry and the Kickball Wedding by Suzy Kline, and March 11--Stanley in Space by Jeff Brown.

New Friends in a Book is a book club for Third Graders. We will talk books and do a creative activity. Sign up for three sessions on Wednesdays, 4:00-4:45pm. February 18-Snowed in with Grandmother Silk by Carol Fenner, April 1- Happily Ever After by Anna Quindlen and April 29-Spiderwick Chronicles #1: The Field Guide by Tony DiTerlizzi.

Go Fourth! is a book club for Fourth Graders. On Saturday, February 28 from 1:00-1-45pm is a Father/Son discussion of The Janitor's Boy by Andrew Clements for 4th and 5th graders. On Wednesday, March 25 from 4:00-4:45pm we will discuss The Report Card by Andrew Clements. On Saturday, March 28 from 1:00-1:45p.m. is a Mother/Daughter discussion of Granny Torelli Makes Soup by Sharon Creech for 4th and 5th graders.

The Page Turners is book club for Fifth Graders. On Monday, February 2, bring a brown bag dinner, we'll have a beverage and dessert and discuss The Wish Giver by Bill Brittain from 5:45-6:15pm. On Saturday, February 28 from 1:00-1-45pm is a Father/Son discussion of The Janitor's Boy by Andrew Clements for 4th and 5th graders. On Saturday, March 28 from 1:00-1:45p.m. is a Mother/Daughter discussion of Granny Torelli Makes Soup by Sharon Creech for 4th and 5th graders.

Please check the library website www.gardencitypl.org for upcoming events and registration dates. Funding for these programs has been provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Priority for registration and participation is given to children who are Garden City Public Library cardholders.
