Troop 243's Pancake Breakfast
      Troop 243 will hold its annual Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, January 11, 2009 in the St. Joseph's School cafeteria from 8 AM to 1 PM. The event has proven to be a great culinary and social event year after year. For a donation of $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for children, (kids under three eat free!), you can enjoy several types of pancakes as well as sausage, fruit, and bagels.

Breast Cancer Program Jeopardized By Budget Cuts
      The majority of volunteers who work for the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program are fighters, having successfully battled the disease. Now they are prepared for a battle of a different sort as they fight a proposed $300,000 cut in funding that will dim the lights on a program that for 28 years has helped many people during their darkest days.

Blood Drive At Garden City Library
      Long Island Blood Services will hold a blood drive at The Garden City Public Library on Tuesday, January 6th from 3PM to 8:30 PM. The blood drive will be held in the Library's large meeting room on the lower level. Cholesterol testing will be done at the same time as blood donation and results will be mailed to the donor's home.

      At this year's 2008 Junior Achievement of New York Gala, Bob Catell, Chairman of National Grid, who now resides in Garden City, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Catell's invaluable service to JANY began in the late eighties when he began his tenure as Board Member. His impact continues today; he recently led National Grid in launching their first ever JANY Bowl-A-Thon.

AAUW Goes To The Movies
      AAUW looks forward to January 5th when Monday's Marvelous Matinees will present Anthony Adverse at 1:30 pm in the Garden City Library. This blockbuster film based on the 1933 blockbuster novel by Hervey Allen stars Fredric March and Olivia de Haviland and has a stellar cast of familiar faces. The film earned three Oscars for Best Editing, Best Musical Score and Best Cinematography.
