Garden City Turkey Trot Attracts A Record Turnout!

The runners are off!
Thanks to a beautiful sunny day and a new race website (www.gcturkeytrot.com), the 31st annual Garden City Turkey Trot set new records for both runner turnout and money raised for the race's two beneficiaries, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The excitement began on Thanksgiving morning with the Challenger Division run for special needs athletes - an event not to be missed - followed by the Fun Run at 9:30 a.m. and the 5 Mile main event at 10:00 a.m. After the National Anthem was sung by Garden City resident Sarah D'Antonio, the race gun went off and thousands of runners once again took to the streets of Garden City. This year more than 3,500 runners participated in the 5 Mile Run and 1.4 Mile Fun Run. Runners from Garden City, all across Long Island and all across the United States ran the race. The Turkey Trot is a true community tradition where neighbors come out to cheer on the runners throughout the course. The Race Committee (Ken Aneser, Kevin Coffey, Bob Freeman, Chris Giarraputo, Mike Kopcak, Charlie Lee, Jim Loughlin, Ian Paisley, Bob Priest, Phil Puccio, Tim Tobin & Rob Votruba) would like to thank all the runners, and volunteers and the various departments (fire, police and recreation to name a few) of the Village of Garden City for their support. Also a big thank you goes out to all our corporate sponsors and benefactors who made this year's Turkey Trot a smashing success: Merrill Lynch, National Land Tenure Company, LLC, The Kenney Family Foundation, The Garden City Hotel, Winthrop Radiology Associates and Dr. Orlando Ortiz, Forbes, Coach Realtors, The Durnan Group, Forbes, Rafferty Capital Markets, Verizon, the Garden City Buffalos, Bagelman, Entenmann's and La Bottega Restaurant. Happy Holidays and see you all next year!
