The Office Cat

On Saturday, November 8, the Annual Wine Tasting and Auction to benefit Nassau Suffolk Services for Autism will be held at the Cherry Valley Club. A wide array of wines and champagnes will be offered along with hors d'oeuvres, a buffet dinner, auction and raffle prizes. Tickets may be reserved for $80 per person in advance or purchased at the door for $85 per person. The public is welcome. Call NSSA 631-462-0386 for further information or to reserve tickets... On the same day, there will be a fair featuring gifts and personal treasures. Among the beautiful articles are handmade place mats, quilts, baby sweaters, baby bibs, pot holders, Christmas ornaments and decorations. Also available will be white elephants, toys, books, jewelry, baked goods and refreshments. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 420 Stewart Ave...Also that day, St. James Lutheran Community Church, 116 Elton Rd., Stewart Manor (corner of Chester Ave. and Elton Rd.) will hold its annual Fall Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be unique gift items, a "Granny's Attic" full of old treasures, local merchant gift certificates and a bake table. Everything will be affordable. Between 11:30 and 1:30 the luncheonette will be serving their famous clam chowder, mouthwatering grilled cheese, hot dogs and homemade desserts. All proceeds will go toward some long overdue repairs that are needed in the kitchen at St. James. Call 352-4099... Also on Saturday, The Ladies Aid Society of St. John's Lutheran Church, 47 Winthrop St., Williston Park, will be hosting its annual fair form 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be much for everyone of all ages. Toys, homemade baked goods, Christmas gifts, stationery, handicrafts, many white elephant items and more. A new offering this year will be theme baskets that will be sold through a silent auction. All proceeds go to various missions around the world. Moderately priced refreshments will be available during the day. Call 742-5858... On Sunday, November 9, Jeri Woodhouse of A Taste of the North Fork, informally shares her ideas for holiday entertaining. Those who drop by will find out how to create simple and sophisticated dishes with jams, sauces, flavored oils and condiments. The Nassau County Department of Health, reminds residents that the Town of North Hempstead is offering a free rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets on Saturday, November 15. Open to all Nassau County residents, the clinic will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter located at 75 Marino Avenue, Port Washington. New York State law requires all dogs, cats and domesticated ferrets to be vaccinated against rabies. If an unvaccinated pet or one that is overdue on its vaccination comes in contact with a rabid or suspected rabid animal, the pet must either be destroyed or strictly quarantined for six months. However, if a vaccinated animal comes into contact with a wild animal, it needs only a booster vaccination, but this immunization must be administered within five days of exposure. If you care for your family and your pet, it is absolutely essential that your animals have up-to-date rabies vaccinations. Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem

On November 3, a truck stop was conducted at the Stewart Manor RR station with 8 trucks inspected; 59 tickets issued; 6 for overweight...On that same day, two people described as black, 30-years-old, a male and female, allegedly entered the CVS, on Franklin Avenue, and stole 22 Abreva creams valued at $461 and 48 Zytec allergy pills valued at $1138, before fleeing the store... On October 30, PO Madden arrested a 19-year-old Franklin Square man for the criminal possession of marijuana in his car parked at NHP Road...Also that day, PO Bandl arrested a 52-year-old Old Westbury woman for alleged DWI (.09%) at Franklin Ave./ Fourteenth St, around 10:30 p.m. The motorist was also driving without a license... Someone broke a screen to a basement window at Raymond Court on October 28... On November 1, a wallet was taken from a locked car parked at the GC Golf Club on Stewart Avenue. It contained personal papers, a credit card, and $200... PO Oswald arrested a 28-year-old GC Park man for alleged DWI (.17%) at Merillon Ave./ Nassau Blvd. on November 2, after the man was found sleeping at the wheel of his car...A 16-year-old female GC High School student reported that someone had taken her pocketbook containing $125 and an Ipod valued at $300 from her desk in Chem lab at the high school on October 29...On the same day, a $2000 laptop and $250 Ipod were stolen from a car parked in the driveway at a Kingsbury Rd. house... A thief took a bag, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, Nextel radio, and clothing, from a 1998 Windstar parked at Field 6 E on October 28...Three windows valued at $300 each, were found damaged at the GC high school on October 21...

A smoke machine in the main ballroom at the GC Hotel set off a smoke alarm there on October 29... FD rescued an occupant of a car involved in a car accident at Franklin Avenue on October 31... Moving materials accidentally hit a pull box at Homestead School on October 31...Disgruntled job applicants left a Franklin Avenue office building after being told to do so on November 3, and decided to set their applications on fire outside. They had left before the FD arrived...Papers were found burning at Osborne Park on November 3... A booster was used to extinguish a leaf fire on Wetherill Road on November 4...
