Garden City Public Library Welcomes New Director

The Board of Trustees of the Garden Cioty Public Library, J. Randolph Colahan Library Board Chair, Gloria C. Weinrich Vice-chair, and Trustees John Pascal, Barbara Brudie-Martis and Elizabeth Huscle are pleased to announce the appointment of Margaret A. Cincotta to Director of the GCPL, and welcome her to the position as of October 13. Ms. Cincotta replaces Alan Roeckel who retired after a long and successful library career in Garden City. The trustees were aided in their extensive search by Gerald Nichols, who is widely respected in library management and who currently leads the Palmer Institute for Public Library Organization and Management at C. W. Post College. Tom Witt, Assistant Director, was complimented by the trustees for the excellent manner in which he has performed as acting director.

Ms. Cincotta was graduated from Molloy College in Rockville Centre and has received her graduate degree in library science from C.W. Post College. She has also completed an Advanced Certificate in Library Management at the University of North Texas.

Margaret Cincotta brings more than 30 years of library experience and training to her new position. She began her career while in high school as a page in the Hempstead Library, and continued there as a reference librarian and children's librarian upon completion of her degree. She continued to gain experience in positions in the East Meadow Public Library and Levittown PL where she served as assistant library director for three years.

Ms. Cincotta joined the North Merrick Public Library as director in 2001, and implemented a number of initiatives during her tenure. She also served on various library committees.

The trustees look forward to Ms. Cincotta being a part of our library community. She is pleased to be a part of the Garden City library. We know the people of Garden City will continue to find the GCPL the beautiful and innovative facility the librarians and staff have provided the patrons through the years.
