Don't Get Caught Short! Order "Big Bucks" Tix Now! That's the warning of Saint Anne's "Spirit Day" Co-Chairs John Parks and Marie Fischer as the traditional post-Labor day avalanche of orders starts pouring in for a piece of the "Big Bucks/Spirit Day" sweepstakes action in advance of the "Spirit Day" spectacular on Saturday, Sept. 13. The exciting family fun day, from 1 to 10 P.M., attracts a wide range of attendees from the parish, Long Island, and the city to the beautifully renovated Saint Anne's Church/School complex in Garden City at Dartmouth St. & New Hyde Park Road. The shared aim of a dramatic "Fifty/Fifty" $100,000 "Big Bucks/ Spirit Day" Sweepstakes, limited to 800 entries, will be to contribute $50,000 to an ongoing drive to help build a new church elevator and $50,000 in cash prizes ($25,000 Grand Prize and Five Prizes of $5,000 each) to lucky contributing parishioners and friends. The elevator service is primarily aimed at making both levels of Saint Anne's Church services more accessible to aging and disabled parishioners. The design/construction contribution and contributor prize structure will be adjusted proportionally lower if the 800 goal is not reached. Winners will be announced at the conclusion of "Spirit Day" which runs from 1 to 10 PM (rain or shine!). Sweepstakes tickets at $125 each are available at the Rectory 35 Dartmouth St. or on "Spirit Day" at the "Big Bucks" service tent . As many as five participants may share in the purchase of a ticket. Last year, the sweepstakes had its best performance since its introduction on the first "Spirit Day" five years before. It shared its 2007 winnings with the parish project of transforming a school class room/mini auditorium into the attractive Saint Therese chapel in Saint Anne's School memorializing the late Msgr. William F. Costello. Features of the dramatic all-family fun "Spirit Day" on Sept. 13 include exciting Inflatable Rides, Basketball Contests, Carnival and Respite games, Teen Night Club, Night at the Races, Fall Plant Sale and Craft Fair. There's Continuous Music: DJ all day and live band all evening! Great food at reasonable prices will be available all day long. In spite of the variety and caliber of attractions noted above, the favorite attraction of the day per custom, will be the overflowing and awe-inspiring 5 PM Saturday Mass celebrated outdoors. Have fun and share the true "Spirit" of "Spirit Day" with us on Sept. 13! As the "Spirit Day" Committee" is wont to say: "We'll See You Later, Elevator!"
