Garden City B Swim Team Wins Against Bethpage

The Garden City B Swim Team has now won two meets in a row - the most recent against Bethpage this past Saturday by a score of 187 vs. 134.

RESULTS

Jr. Girls Medley Relay: Erin Cunningham, Annie Blanco, Katherine Donovan and Kelly George took 1st with a commanding lead. Squad 2 comes in 2nd.

Jr. Boys Medley Relay: Matthew Curry, Jack Donnelly, Jack Reina and Rob Hyer placed 1st by a wide margin and GC's squad 2 picks up a 3rd place finish.

Freestyle:

8 & Under Girls: Alexis Varano wins her first race of the season by a few body lengths securing a 1st place finish for GC with Rose Kelly picking up 3rd place.

8 & Under Boys: Ryan George pulled out a close 2nd place finish.

9&10 Girls: Bethpage took an early lead, but Kelly George and Sophia Powers held on to finish both 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

9&10 Boys: Bethpage started ahead after the turn, but Rob Hyer pulled out a 1st place finish for the team.

11&12 Girls: Kelly Grace and Sophia Powers placed 1st and 2nd respectively.

11&12 Boys: Bethpage started out in front while Joe Eigl almost caught Bethpage in an exciting race but secured 2nd place for GC with Jon Toto coming in 3rd.

13&Up Girls: The girls were neck and neck at the turn with Amanda Eigl squeaking out a 2nd place finish for GC.

Backstroke:

8 & Under Girls: GC started out behind, but Lauren Deluca and Delany Comerford pulled ahead to a 1st and 2nd place finish.

8 & Under Boys: GC delivers a powerful performance with Kevin Curry, Tom Powderly, and Tom Kiely taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively.

9&10 Girls: GC dominated this event with Erin Wallace, Caitlin Powderly and Frances Brown taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively.

9&10 Boys: Matthew Curry took an early lead easily winning this event with David Leary taking 2nd place in a very close finish.

11&12 Girls: Again GC dominates with Mary Kate O'Sullivan, Erin Cunningham and Katie McGovern respectively taking all three top places in this event.

11&12 Boys: Matt Pena easily secured 2nd place while Tom Reina fought for a 3rd place finish.

13&Up Girls: Brigid Reina and Ariana Browand came in 2nd and 3rd in a photo finish.

13&Up Boys: Facing stiff competition in this event, Brian Walsh holds onto a 3rd place finish.

Breaststroke:

8 & Under Girls: Kelly Donovan pulled out ahead early in the race to place 1st with Lauren DeLuca touching just before Alexis Varano for 3rd.

8 & Under Boys: Ryan George placed 1st with Harry Ernst in a close race steals 2nd.

9&10 Girls: Nicole Motto, Katherine Donovan and Sophia Powers all had a strong swim, placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

9&10 Boys: Joe Eigl came in right behind Bethpage to capture 2nd with Aidan Polke, edging out Matthew Varano for 3rd place.

11&12 Girls: This was clearly a GC race from the start with Liz Kane and Emily Donovan taking both 1st and 2nd respectively.

11&12 Boys: Bethpage barely touches out GC for 1st. Brendan Polke and Jack Donnelly end up taking 2nd and 3rd.

13&Up Girls: Amanda Eigl and Brigid Reina came from behind to take 2nd and 3rd.

13&Up Boys: Mike O'Sullivan picked up a 2nd place finish for the team in this event.

Butterfly:

8 & under Girls: In a close race where the swimmers were neck and neck down the length of the pool, Kelly Donovan and Olivia Ragusa took 1st and 3rd place.

8 & under Boys: In another close finish, Gabriel Ragusa and Thomas Powderly placed 1st and 3rd.

9&10 Girls: Kathryn Donovan and Katie Eigl held close and swam away with 2nd and 3rd.

9&10 Boys: GC dominated this butterfly event with a photo finish among Matthew Curry placing 1st, Ben Walsh 2nd, and Matthew Varano 3rd.

11&12 Girls: Mary Kate O'Sullivan, Annie Blanco, and Emily Mercandetti took all the glory from this grueling event placing in the top three spots respectively.

11&12 Boys: GC delivers another close heat with Jack Reina placing 2nd and John Toto placing 3rd.

13&Up Boys: Brian Cunningham holds on by a stroke to capture 3rd place.

Freestyle Relay

Jr. Girls: Liz Kane, Mary Kate O'Sullivan, Kelly George and Sophia Powers splashed to another top three finish.

Jr. Boys: Matthew Curry, Jack Donnelly, Jack Reina, and Robert Hyer take a long lead for 1st. Squad two places 2nd .

Sr. Girls: Brigid Reina, Ariana Browand, Amanda Eigl and Michelle Levano deliver a strong performance taking 2nd.

Sr. Boys: Brian Cunningham, Kieran O'Sullivan, Mike O'Sullivan, and Anthony Kraff swam to a solid 2nd place finish.

A great job was done by all team members and coaches Heather Harken, Mike Kupferberg and Eileen Lilly.
