Born in NYC on January 22, 1926, he was the son of Chauncey Todd Horton and Helen Henderson. Don grew up in Garden City NY and graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy with a BS in 1946. He was active with the Merchant Marine and then transferred his commission to the US Navy where he served as a Lieutenant Commander. Following active service, he enrolled and graduated from the Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in 1949.

In 1947, Don married the love of his life, Patricia Harrison, at the 7th Regiment Armory in NYC. He started his career with Time Inc. and was then recalled for the war in Korea in 1951. Upon his return he spent the next 25 years with Reader's Digest as promotion director. Upon his retirement in 1986, he continued writing for the community newspapers and enjoyed a life filled with family, friends, and travel.

Don is survived by his wife Patricia of 60 years, and his sons and daughter-in-laws Jeffrey and Maryann of Sarasota FL and Don and Jane of Westport CT. He was also the proud Grandfather of Randolph, Brittan, Victoria, and Brandon Horton.

Don will be remembered for his great wit, love for the perfect sail on LI Sound and the joy shared with his family. The consummate gentleman, he leaves a legacy of honor and integrity felt by all who were touched by him.
