Friends Conclude Spring Season
After Marjorie Maher, Chairperson of the Nominating Committee presented the slate of officers for 2008 - 2009, President Sal Catania gave a brief recap of The Friends accomplishments thus far this year. Among the 81 events sponsored by The Friends in the first six months of the year, there were 35 films, 11 programs for children, 19 programs for Young Adults, 10 Programs of lectures and demonstrations for adults as well as 6 showcase and gallery displays. The forthcoming summer months will see a total of 14 programs aimed at the vacationing school children. September will mark the 7 th anniversary of the Monday's Marvelous Movie Matinées program. The Friends also purchased a 35 inch flat TV set with DVD capabilities for use by groups which meet at the library. Mr. Catania then paid tribute to Mr. Arthur Jasper who managed the G.C. Exchange for many years and to Mr. Alan Roeckel, Library Director who will retire at the end of the month. Mr. Roeckel was unable to be present but sent a letter which said, in part, "It has been a pleasure working with The Friends and their dedicated volunteers. Your efforts have mad the library a better place and I wish all of you good luck, good health and much success in the future." Mr. Cantania then introduced Barbara Minerd, Program Chairman, who introduced the evening's program. The Best of Broadway was a vocal concert featuring 18 hit songs from many Broadway musicals. The performs, Gene Dicks and Lee Ann Brill had shared the stage at both the 2006 and 2007 New York state Senior Idol competitions with each winning the title consecutively.
