Patriettes End A Successful Season

The Patriettes are never short on Team Spirit!
This past weekend the Garden City U11 Patriettes had 2 games to end their spring season. Their first game was Saturday against the Port Washington Stingers with sole position of 2nd place at stake. The Patriettes went into the game knowing they would only have one substitute which any time is a challenge certainly made greater considering the 90 degree heat. Right from the beginning of the game the girls came out with passion and determination to battle for every ball. The midfield of Alexis Leighton, Maddy Stone and Cailee McCarthy consistently controlled the center of the field. This lead to a number of shots on goal by the forward unit of Kristen Adams and Laurel Nothel. Midway thru the first half the Patriettes broke thru with the first goal and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. With this lead the Patriettes came out for the second half with renewed energy and enthusiasm. The second half opened up with the Patriettes utilizing a sweeper and 3 fullbacks to protect the lead and focus on preventing a tying score. The defense of Erin Rode, Julia Biscardi, Jillian Curtin, and Christi Pflume with Caitlyn Kaczynski in goal prevented the Stingers from scoring in the second half. With injured teammate Claudia Caracciolo cheering the team on the Patriettes scored one more time to win the game 2-0.

All are still smiling after playing tough in the Waldbaums Cup Final.
On Sunday the Patriettes ended their season with a trip to the Waldbaum's Cup finals at Stony Brook. The Patriettes showed up at the field excited to play for "The Cup". True to their form the whole season the girls had smiles on their faces and a true appreciation for their accomplishments that got them to the finals. In the finals the Patriettes were taking on the Lindenhurst Lady Flyers, who had lost only one game all season. The girls were up against a stiff challenge but did not back down for one moment. Even though the Lady flyers scored twice in the first half the Patriettes came out strong in the second half and scored a goal to make the score 2-1. Even though they did not emerge victorious the Patriettes which include: Erin Rode, Laurel Nothel, Kristen Adams, Isabel Balady , Julia Biscardi, Claudia Caracciolo, Jillian Curtin, Caitlyn Kaczynski, Annie Kane, Alexis Leighton, Kelly McDonnell, Christie Pflume, Cailee McCarthy, Margot McTiernan and Maddy Stone still all had smiles on their faces and truly enjoyed the whole experience. The Patriettes would like to thank their parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters and friends for making the long drive to come cheer them on during their game. Even though the Patriettes did not with their last game their season was full of wonderful accomplishments which include; winning the East Meadow Tournament, moving up a division after the fall season, having a 7 game winning streak in the spring, and making the Waldbaum's Cup Finals. Congratulations girls on a wonderful year!

The Patriettes show their pride in being at the tournament finals.
