The 7th grade students from the Waldorf School of Garden City recently presented their marionette puppet play, The Emperor's New Suit by Hans Christian Anderson at the Survivorship in Brothers and Sisters Place (SIBS Place), a program of South Nassau Communities Hospital that serves the well siblings, ages 4-17, of children with cancer or other serious or devastating illnesses. Located in Hewlett, New York, SIBS Place provides support and attention to the unique experiences and needs of the well siblings as they face the issues and conflicts related to the illnesses of their brothers or sisters.
Students at the Waldorf School strive to round out their education with a sense of creative and community intelligence. Suzanne Kornblatt, the Supervisor of SIBS Place complimented the Waldorf students' performance and social awareness. "The children demonstrated their creativity, imaginations and dedication to this project in their intricate designs and performance skills. Our participants delighted in their efforts and were inspired by their hard work," she said. Waldorf's 7th grade class teacher Kelly Beekman added, "It was a perfect opportunity for the students to see how their deeds affect the world around them. They could contribute in a positive way to the lives of others."
