From The Mayor's Office www.Gardencityny.net
One of the most attractive facilities within the Village is our Garden City Swimming Pool. It's 52nd season will begin tomorrow, Saturday, June 14 All residents are encouraged to become members of the Swimming Pool and to enjoy all that it has to offer to all age groups. NATIONAL FLAG DAY By an Act of Congress, dated August 3, 1949, June 14 of each year was designated "National Flag Day" and the week in which June 14 occurs as "National Flag Week". The "Pause for the Pledge of Allegiance" was made an official Flag Day ceremony by an Act of Congress in 1985. The National Flag Day Foundation, Inc. is asking all citizens of the United Sates to display the flag during that week and that all Americans join in the annual "PAUSE FOR THE PLEDGE" ceremony on June 14 at 7 p.m. by reciting in unison the Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag and Nation. Please remember that displaying the flag at night requires proper illumination. BELMONT FESTIVAL The 11th Annual Belmont Festival was held this past Friday evening on Seventh Street in our Village. Once again this event was enjoyed by residents and visitors to our community. This is truly a positive partnering event between the Village and the New York Racing Association (NYRA). The parade was highlighted by horse poster contest winners, the Garden City Police and Fire Department Color Guards, Garden City High School Band, several antique cars, local area fire departments, including our very own department, the Islip horse drill team and several Garden City volunteer organizations which included the GCAA. Alex's Lemonade Stand which was managed by several Garden City High School students was once again a part of the festival collecting money to benefit pediatric cancer research. I would like to especially thank those who contributed to this wonderful cause both by volunteering and contributing so generously. A special thank you to the festivals two main sponsors, the Garden City Hotel and National Grid. Additionally, a thank you to the Village Police Department, members of the Special Police and to our Department of Public Works for a wonderful effort in the clean up. ANNUAL TEST FOR BACKFLOW PREVENTION ASSEMBLY UNITS Residents who have in ground sprinklers are advised that their sprinklers must have certification of their backflow prevention units. Please take a minute to schedule an appointment with a certified backflow prevention assembly tester who is certified by the Nassau County Department of Health. If the test discloses that the assembly is not operating satisfactorily, please have the necessary repairs made and the assembly retested by the certified tester. On completion of a test showing that the assembly is operating satisfactorily, the certified tester should complete a Test and Maintenance Report Form and forward to Village Hall Department of Public Works. An untested backflow device is considered a potential hazard to the residents of the Village. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please feel free to call Steven Bayard at 465-4024. BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETINGS The next Board of Trustees Meeting will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2008. The meeting dates for the summer will be as follows: July 17 and August 21. The meetings will be held in the Board Room at Village Hall and will begin at 8:00 p.m. VILLAGE'S WEB SITE I encourage residents to periodically utilize the Village's website for information regarding the Village's operations, as well as items of seasonal and special interest.
