In Memoriam John T. Hofmann
John T. Hofmann, passed away on April 28, 2008. John, a 50 year resident of Garden City, was actively involved with golf at the Garden City Country Club for many years. John served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He retired from Exxon Corp after a 30 year career. Mr. Hofmann was the husband of the late Eileen; father of John Jr. (Margaret), Susan Marks (James), and Richard (Mary). He was the grandfather of Richard Jr. and Casey. A funeral mass was held on May 2 at Saint Joseph Church. Interment followed at Holy Rood Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Fairchild Sons Funeral Home, Inc. Norbert C. Koenig Family and friends were deeply saddened by the loss of Norbert C. Koenig, 87, in Boca Raton, Florida. A retired vice president of Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City, he lived in Garden City with his wife, Elizabeth, for more than 50 years before retiring to Boca Raton. His parents, Casper and Pauline Koenig, immigrated to the United States in the 1880's. A World War II veteran, he was deployed to Western Europe and served under Patton in the military campaign into Czechoslovakia. After the war, he graduated from Bard College and joined the Bank of Manhattan. Following his marriage to Elizabeth White, he settled in Garden City, where Elizabeth was a school librarian until her retirement. The couple were active in the Garden City Community Church, where they were members of the Couples Club, and he served as an usher. During his career with Chase Manhattan, he pursued his economics and banking interest at Rutgers University and New York University. The Koenigs enjoyed vacations at their farmhouse in Wadhams, New York, a hamlet in the Adirondacks. The property had been lived in and tilled by several generations of Elizabeth's family. In Wadhams the Koenigs were members of the United Church of Christ and served on the board of the Wadhams Free Library.. Norbert Koenig is survived by his wife Elizabeth, of Boca Raton; sons Fred, of San Diego, California, and David, of Collman, Alabama; grandson David, of San Diego, California and his brother Louis, of Garden City.
