The Garden City U11 Patriettes played their most recent league game Saturday against the Hicksville Lady Hawks. The first 10 minutes of the game were controlled by the Patriettes with numerous shots on goal. However, half way into the 1st half the Lady Hawks scored the first goal of the game. This was the first time in the last 4 league games the Patriettes had found themselves behind. Constant pressure in the Hicksville zone was put on by Kristen Adams, Kelly McDonnell at forward and Alexis Leighton, Margot McTiernan and Cailee McCarthy at halfback. The pressure led to two goals for the Patriettes and a 2-1 lead. The defense of Jillian Curtin, Erin Rode and Julia Biscardi ensured no further goals for the lady hawks in the half. The second half started well for the Patriettes with the forwards of, Christie Pflume and Isabel Balady continuing to put pressure on the opposing goal. This resulted in the Patriettes adding an additional goal and going up 3-1 halfway thru the 2nd half. With 10 minutes left the lady hawks scored to come within 1 goal. For the rest of the half the midfield of Annie Kane, Laurel Nothel and Maddy Stone were first to the ball and kept pushing the ball up field even though Hicksville loaded the offensive side of the field. Even if the Lady Hawks did get a shot off Caitlyn Kaczinski followed the ball well and kept the ball out of the net. The whistle blew after a full 60 minutes of soccer and the Patriettes won the game 3-2 The win moved the girls up to a tie for third in the competitive N3 division. The Patriettes next game is Saturday afternoon at Soccer Park against Franklin Square. Congratulations girls and good luck Saturday.
