Girls 3rd Grade Grey Lacrosse Defeats Huntington

Celia Concannon drives past four defenders!
The girls made their mom's proud on Mother's day by beating Huntington 9-4. The girls again showed superior lacrosse skills by catching, throwing, and scooping better than their opponent. Kathleen Griffith opened the scoring on a nice shot off a free position. Katherine Galzerano then played flawlessly by scoring FOUR of the next five goals while assisting on a goal scored by Celia Concannon. Claire Gallic had two nice assist and Kathleen Griffith one on Katherine's scoring spree. Garden city led 6-0. Garden city dominated time of possession in the first half thanks to good ball movement from the homes (attack) of Mairead Pfaff, Emily Clarke, Caroline Cudahy, and Maggie Minett. The midfield helped out by winning the ground ball contest with Megan Seel, Marlee Rich and Dominique Dragotto leading the way. The defensive play was outstanding with Caroline Munn, Kelly George, Kippy Donovan, Keeley Scott, and Alexis Pagonis picking up three second calls, displaying unbeatable double teams, and picking off passes. Garden city led 6-2 at half.

The second half Huntington showed a renewed spirit, but goalie Hannah Ardito stopped two point blank shots to quell their enthusiasm. The offense got back on track with Celia scoring two more and Emily Clarke adding one. The completed passes up and down the field were quite impressive through the second half. The girls will likely face their toughest competition next week when they face Manhasset at home. Please come out to cheer them on.
