Girls Varsity Lacrosse Heads To Playoffs

With a 14-1 overall record, the road to the playoffs has been smooth sailing for Garden City's girls varsity lacrosse team. Led by head coach Diane Chapman and assistants Gina Sambus and Dane Solomon, the team has outscored it's opponents 163-104. Their only loss occurred against Mt. Hebron High School during a Maryland tournament in April.

The Trojans latest victory came on Monday afternoon, May 12th at GCHS against Plainedge. Despite the cold, damp weather, Garden City had a 14-4 halftime lead that eventually turned into a 22-9 victory. Megan Walters led the scoring for Garden City with four goals. Becky Lynch, Caroline Tarzian, Caroline McTiernan, and Emily Norell scored three goals each. MaryJo Kramer, and Erin Brennan scored two a piece, followed by Brittany Wilton and Shannon Mangini, each with one goal. Contributing with assists were: Brittany Wilton (4), Megan Walters (2), Shannon Mangini (2), Caroline McTiernan (2), Becky Lynch (2), Caroline Tarzian (2), Gabby Garcia (1) and MaryJo Kramer (1). Garden City goalkeeper Kelly Weis, made 9 saves, Alli Kleshefsky made 4.

After a first round bye, the team will begin the playoffs next week.
