GC 6th Grade White Sweeties Battle Manhasset It was a real nail bitter. GC played Manhasset, a well-rounded, undefeated lacrosse team on the Manhasset turf. Everyone was shaking, nervous to step onto the field. The girls felt like it was the World Series, music blasting, people shouting, the players loved it. Everyone on the team did at least something great. Either they would scoop a groundball, catch a pass, steal the ball, or even score a goal. Everyone was so very excited! Kayla Murphy, a tough midfielder, scored GC's first two goals. She won almost every draw and skillfully passed to whoever was open. Sage Fuller played defense and did as much as she could to shut the Manhasset offense down. Sarah Galzerano, a midfielder and attacker, scored two amazing goals. All the fans on the sidelines were cheering! Lauren Garizio, GC's goalie in the first half and attacker, played a fierce game. She blocked almost every shot and almost got a shot! Daniella Joyce made some long runs down the field often running as fast as a bullet. Amanda Kelly, played awesome up front coming up with many rebounds after shots on goal. Katherine Malhame was one fierce midfielder and defender scored two goals and defended and stole a lot more passes. Evan Molitor, another defender, and GC's other goalkeeper, blocked many shots in the second half and defended them. Megan Mulhall made some incredible runs, scooped many ground balls and got a key assist on a superb pass in the game. Kristen Rasquin scored a magnificent goal on a superb pass from Kayla Murphy which caused the GC crowd to erupt. Maggie Rogers scooped some key ground balls and made some great defensive plays while get a key assist on a Sara Galzerano goal. Kelly Tierney made some great plays including one great run where she was ultimately denied a goal by Manhasset. Erin Pfail played a strong midfield game making several long runs while scoring a goal and assisting on three others. Jamie Sweet played a strong game upfront and at midfield helping GC control the game. Alex Riceman made some key stops on defense and made strong runs through throngs of defenders to clear the ball upfield. Sara Rubino played strong on both offense and defense scooping up balls and playing solid defense. Halle Watkus was once again a pillar on defense after a relentless onslaught which Manhasset threw at the GC goal. Sam Dragotto made some key stops on defense when Manhasset pulled out all stops to tie the game. The game started with GC taking a commanding 4-1 lead only to lead at half 6-4. Manhasset made a rush but GC led 8-6 with less than 5 minutes left. Manhasset put on incredible pressure and tied the game at 8 with less then 2 minutes. GC mad a great stand at the game's end allowing Erin Pfail to scoop the ball with 33 seconds left from behind her own goal and run the length of the field with her GC teammates doing a superior job and spreading the field, go behind the cage with 8 seconds left and find Katherine Malhame, who was fouled in the arc as the last 2 seconds were allowed to tick-off. It was a classic game - a true GC - Manhasset battle. The two teams can be proud of their efforts. Both teams remained undefeated and most of all, it was a great Mother's Day for all. Thanks to the coaches for the great Mother's Day party after the game.
