On Thursday, May 1st, 16 theatre groups from schools across New England and New York participated in Mt. Holyoke College's 31st Annual German Theatre Festival and Competition. Students in the senior German class from the Waldorf School of Garden City received first place for their original play "Herr Meier oder Herr Meyer?" The event was co-sponsored by the Goethe Institute Boston, Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Boston and the Department of German Studies at Mount Holyoke College.
"The senior class German students at the Waldorf School have been participating in the German Theater Festival and Competition at Mount Holyoke College for the past 15 years," said Waldorf's high school chairman and senior German class teacher Roland Rothenbucher. "This year's presentation of an original play was the culmination of two months of ensemble work which included writing, editing and rehearsing. The winners' outstanding achievement is a testimony to their dedication over years of foreign language study." Over 270 students from New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island and Connecticut participated in the day-long festivities.
