GC Hotel To Celebrate Belmont Stakes

The Garden City Hotel will mark the 2008 Belmont Stakes by celebrating its 140th running from the eve of the third and final leg of the Triple Crown on Thursday, June 5 through race day on Saturday, June 7.

Since the Belmont Stakes' move from The Bronx to nearby Elmont in 1905, The Garden City Hotel has had a tradition of hosting a who's who from the horse racing world. Guests have included the Belmont family who visited Long Island for such sporting occasions but also fashionable galas in the hotel's ballroom. Today, the race's horse owners, trainers, jockeys and spectators continue to make The Garden City Hotel their main gathering spot outside of Belmont Park.

In 2008, The Garden City Hotel, a long-time Belmont Festival sponsor, will continue the tradition of exhibiting the race's starting gate at its front door before it moves into position at the head of the Belmont Festival parade that begins marching at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 6.
