Junior Lizards Announce 2008 Teams

LIJL 2008 9th & 10th Grade team: GC Residents Steve Jahelka (42-top 5 from L), Tom Gordon (22-top 7 from L), Brian Fischer (17-top 10 from L), Sean Mahon (8-middle 4 from L), Brian Coleman (15-middle 6 from L), J.P. Burnside (78-front 6 from L)
The LIJL have completed the selection process for the 3 teams that will engage in summer tournament play. "We are very pleased with the talent level that we saw on the field during tryouts and are happy to be able to field 2 boys teams and 1 girls team this year," said LIJL Director, Mike Winkoff.

Winkoff, who is also the head coach of the boys 9th & 10th grade team that won Tri-State and The Summer Sizzle tournament last year said that he is especially excited with the organization's ability to field a 7th and 8th grade boys and girls team, who will be competing on the same weekend in the Tri-State tournament this Summer. Winkoff is looking forward to coaching the 9th and 10th grade team this summer assisted by John Nessler and Vincent Della Speranza with what he believes is an even stronger team. "We had try-out in 4 different locations with hundreds of boys from all over Long Island with a final fifth tryout before the team was ultimately selected," said Winkoff. Garden City boys returning to this team include Brian Coleman, Stephen Jahelka, Brian Fischer, Tom Gordon and Sean Mahon, who will be joined by James Burnside in 2008.

The Lady Lizards will be coached by Head Coach, Lisa Torre and assisted by Danielle Torre and Christie Ruppert. Garden City is also well represented on this team with Gabrielle Giannone, Niki Berkery, Lauren Coleman, Tara Mahon and Kathryn Montgomery. Torre was impressed with the quality of the players and the level of team play that they exhibited even during tryouts, and expressed that she is looking forward to coaching the girls.

The 7th and 8th grade Junior Lizards will be coached by Tom Holman with assistance from Steve McTigue. Making the team from Garden City are Liam Kennedy, Robert Savage, Patric Berkery, Eddie Tighe, Andre Stone, Brian Porter, Eugene Berkery, Dan Marino and Michael Lofrese.
