The Division 1 NY Metropolitan AAU Basketball Championship was held this past weekend at the Torne Valley Recreation Center in Hillburn, NY. Top teams from across the District were competing in this extremely competitive tournament hosted by the Rockland Rockets.
The LI Lightning went 2-0 on Saturday beating both PAL Diamond and the Westchester Hooper's. On Sunday morning, the Lightning improved their record to 3-0 by beating the Running Rebels and advanced to the Championship Game against the Future Stars of Connecticut.
In the Championship Game, the Lightning found themselves down at the half but they were able to fight back and hold onto a 6-point victory and a perfect 4-0 record in the tournament. This win also gives them an automatic bid to compete in the AAU National Championship Tournament.
The 9u Long Island Lightning team consists of Michaela Bruno, Kerry Defliese & Shannon Kelly (Garden City), Megan Anderson &Ally Murphy (Bellmore), Lauren Lynch & Lindsay O'Sullivan (Manhasset), Adena Bernot (Old Westbury), Sarah Rudolph (Mineola) & Hannah Woodward (East Williston).
