American Legion Offers Scholarship Garden City's William Bradford Turner Post No. 265 has announced that it will be awarding an $8,000 scholarship to a student who commits to becoming a full time Hofstra University student this fall. The Past Commander Gerald F. Sutliff Memorial Scholarship is based on academic, extracurricular, and community service leadership. John Donovan, Commander of the American Legion says, "This is a wonderful opportunity for a Garden City High School senior committed to attending Hofstra University to apply for a scholarship based on achievement. There is no needs-based criteria. We are looking to reward an outstanding member of the high school community." The scholarship provides $1,000 per semester for 8 semesters of full time study. Any student interested in applying for the scholarship should contact the Garden City High School Guidance Department for the date and time of the candidate interviews.
