Waldorf Senior Wins Poetry Award
In a workshop lead by Ms. Trethewey, she discussed her use of poetry as a tool to reexamine and unpack institutionalized beliefs, historical monu-ments and cultural memories. "It was good for the students to see someone who has had success in the field of writing as well as to learn how important it is for creative work to pene-trate questions of history, culture and society," said Jennifer Dorman, Waldorf's creative writing club advisor. Ms. Ortiz's poem will be published in the upcoming volume of "The Lyre," a journal of fiction and photography, produced by Waldorf's creative writing club. The Waldorf School of Garden City is a coeducational day school serving Nursery through 12th Grade.
