5th Grade GCAA Girls Team

The 5th grade GCAA girls team made the Final Four of the Island Garden Travel League. We won a hard-fought game against the travel team from Syosset in the first game of the playoffs. However, they lost in the semi-finals to an undefeated team from St. Rose. The game was competitive throughout, even though the Garden City girls had been soundly defeated in the regular season. We were ahead in the 3rd period, but the superior size of the opponent finally wore down the girls. Our girls finished with a terrific record of 13.6 Each and every girl improved during the course of the season and they became an excellent team. We were consistently led in scoring by Alexis Leighton, Becky Reifler. Shannon/Raphael and Kelly McDonnell. Our dynamic playmakers were Johanna Sokolovic and Anne Marie Kane, and our talented rebounders and defenders were Katie Roscoe, Gianna Eposito, Morgayne Rix and Samantha Auricchio. The future looks very bright for this skilled group of girls who were coached by Greg Raphael and Joe Leighton.
