Garden City Fire Chief Takes Oath of Office

At the Thursday, April 17th Village Board meeting, Mayor Peter Bee administered the Oath of Office to James Meehan as Chief of the Garden City Fire Department. Chief Meehan was elected to the position of Chief of Department at the department's annual meeting on April 3rd. In addition, William Graham, Charles Cavarra and William Castoro were administered the Oaths of Office as Assistant Chiefs in the department as well. Chief James Meehan has proudly served the Village for thirteen years as a volunteer firefighter. During his tenure as a Garden City firefighter, Chief Meehan has served leadership roles in the Corporate, Company and Assistant Chief Officer positions for eleven of his thirteen years of service to the Village. In their capacity as Fire Chiefs, Chief Meehan and his Assistant Chiefs command the entire department of both volunteer and paid firefighters, a force of over 135 personnel. Chief Meehan and his Assistant Chiefs bring more than seventy-five years combined firefighting experience to their positions.
Also sworn into office to command and corporate positions in the fire department were: Captains James Meehan, Jr., Eric Ahlfeld, Joseph Clark and Joseph Nadolny, Lieutenants Edward Moran, Brian Gallo, Mark Hyer and Matt Tittler. Elected Corporate Officers were Secretary Steve Carss, Assistant Secretary Greg Young, Treasurer Gerry Whalen and Assistant Treasurer Bob Kalb. Ex-Chief Leonard Rivera was re-elected and outgoing Chief John P. Casey newly elected to delegate positions to the Nassau County Fire Commission.
