The Waldorf School of Garden City hosted a Benefit Concert for the Jeanette Resnick Endowment on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at historic Flushing Town Hall in Queens, New York. In addition to featuring a number of the school's alumni and music teachers, students from the fourth through twelfth grade were among the performers. Proceeds from the concert benefited the Jeanette Resnick Music Endowment. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to take the stage with professional musicians.

The Jeanette Resnick Music Endowment was established in 2003 by Helen Resnick Shaw '82 as a tribute to her mother's 40-year career at the Waldorf School of Garden City. Grants from the Fund support the orchestral program and the lower school students by subsidizing the cost of private music lessons. In addition to bringing attention to this important grant opportunity, the musical performances were dedicated to Jeanette Resnick in honor of her remarkable teaching legacy and her profound contribution to the Waldorf School of Garden City. Since her retirement, Jeanette Resnick continues to fill the school halls with music as director and pianist for the Waldorf Chamber Players.

"For so many students, Jeanette's dynamic approach through original songs, plays and games was a gateway to the arts. She inspired, early on, in generations of students a life long love and appreciation for music," said School Administrator and Interim Faculty Chair Susan Braun.

The Waldorf School of Garden City serves nursery through grade twelve, and is accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools and the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America. Based on the insights of Rudolf Steiner, Waldorf schools are the largest independent school system outside of parochial schools, and can be found on every continent in the world. The Waldorf School of Garden City has continued in this esteemed tradition, offering a curriculum that balances arts, science, and humanities and awakens independence, curiosity and a life-long desire to learn.
