On Thursday, March 20, a free self-help group for anxiety, panic disorder, depression, OCD and other nervous fears meets (and every Thursday evening) at 8 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, corner of Chester Ave. and New Hyde Park Rd. Through the Recovery International process, members learn to manage stress, panic, anxiety, depression, anger, irrational fears, phobias, compulsions, obsessions and other emotional or behavioral problems. Members also learn how to face and manage psychosomatic symptoms such as heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, sweats, fatigue, headaches, numbness, chest pressure and sleep problems. All group leaders are trained lay volunteers who have experienced some type of difficulty with an emotional problem and practice the Recovery International method of self-help. Car exhibit 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Parking Field 9E between Tenth and Eleventh Sts. View the lineup of magnificent antique, vintage and classic cars. The Banjo Rascals will be at the exhibit and on Seventh St. after the parade. Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem

On March 14, PO Bandl arrested a 21-year-old Franklin Square man for allegedly speeding at 95 mph at Stewart Avenue/NHP Road before he collided with a utility pole at Vassar Street where he and his occupant were injured. The occupant, a 29-year-old Franklin Square man, was taken to Winthrop Hospital for serious injuries. The driver was charged with DWI refusal, assault 2nd degree; a D felony, for recklessly causing injury to another, speeding and reckless driving...On the same day, PO Wedra and PO Madden arrested a 24-year-old Franklin Square man for the possession of 8 oz. of marijuana- a felony, and for speeding, as well as an outstanding warrant for alcohol consumption, at NHP Rd./ Cambridge Ave...A 1999 white Ford Explorer was taken from FD 12 on March 12... Between March 14 and 15, a $250 pair of Armani sunglasses was taken from an unlocked car in a driveway at Heath Place...On March 12, at NHP Rd., PO Florio investigated a report of an intoxicated woman having left the Medical Building on Franklin Avenue, while driving with a child. He arrested a 27-year-old GC female on NHP Rd. at 4:54 PM and charged her with alleged aggravated DWI (.20%), alleged DWI, and endangering the welfare of a child... Stop-DWI crackdown weekends have begun as part of an effort to stop drunk driving, and GC Police have made 5 arrests last weekend. Two were made at NHP Rd; with one each at Clinton Rd., Franklin Ave., and Washington Ave...

Fire Responses:

On March 14, at Old Country Rd., a bus fire occurred and all passengers were evacuated, with a dust powder extinguisher used to put out flames... A child pulled an alarm box at Adelphi University on March 16...FD secured a boiler after it activated an alarm at Euston Rd. on March 18...
