The regular season has ended. It's time for the Island Garden's version of "March Madness" !!! Thirteen of our teams will be entering post season play which begins this week in the highly competitive Super League. Here's the highlights:

It has certainly been an exciting first season for LEIGHTON/PRENDERGAST 4TH BOYS. It has been a pleasure to watch how much the boys have developed both as individuals as well as teammates. They played hard each and every game, which is what it is all about.. The boys never quit on themselves and showed a lot of heart in victories as well as defeats. As a team the boys showed vast improvement in their basic skills and knowledge of the game.

Our backcourt players;James DeSousa,Luke McDade,A.J. Creen,Drew Haggerty,Mark Prevete, and Matt Chmil consistently improved their ballhandling and passing skills which enabled our team to get much better and easier opportunities to score as the season progressed.

Our frontcourt players; Nolan Prendergast,Joe Leighton,Max Webster, Michael Goulard,Jack Riceman Jay Mc Namara and Michael Franco also got stronger and better as the season went on. They impressed us all with there ability to lock down our defense and showed vast improvement each week with their rebounding, which kept the ball in our hands more and more each game.

Overall we are very proud of our team this season and feel like we have a very solid foundation which to build on for next season. We look forward to getting back in the gym as soon as possible with the boys.......TULLY 6TH BOYS is moving on to the playoffs after a big win in their season finale. Tommy Leggett brought back memories of Willis Reed with an early return from the disabled list, and Cullen Minion and Kyle Driscoll hit clutch baskets to seal the victory. Along with front-court mates Danny Dolan, Robert Wotczak, Jack Gillan and Conor Byrnes, the "big fellas" have combined to control the boards and deliver points from the paint all season. Not to be outdone, guards Brian Tully, John Cauchi, Jack Lucchesi, Tim Feyrer and Ethan Gibbons have stepped up their games with solid perimeter defense, unselfish passing and timely hoops. The squad is playing its best basketball and will be looking to keep their successful campaign going.......KIFFEL 8TH GIRLS enter the playoffs as the second seed. They finished the regular season with a victory over a tough Shooting Stars team to finish with a 14 and 4 record. The outstanding season was accomplished by great team defense, tough rebounding and good ball movement on offense. Each game it seemed like a different girl made the big play. The playoffs begin on March 31st, hopefully the two week layoff doesn't hurt. This group of girls have been together since winning the Super League championship back in fifth grade ( they lost in the semi-finals in both the 6th and 7th grade) and have deservedly earned their reputation as a tough opponent to play against.........KELLY 4TH GIRLS finished the season tied for 3rd place with an impressive 12-6 record in the 4th/5th Grade Girls Division. The girls finished the season winning 10 of their last 12 games and are in position to make a strong run during the playoffs. The team of Michaela Bruno, Shannon Kelly, Isabel Klatt, Juliana Kubler, Nicole Leto, Maddie McCabe, Julia McGuire, Amanda Medjid, Erin Pasquale and Caroline Peppard have played solid defense all year. Good Luck in the Playoffs!!!!.........KELLY 6TH BOYS secured the top spot in Division 2 with a 15-3 record. The boys smothering press held opponents helpless and also helped fuel a high powered offense that scored more points than any other 6th grade team in Island Garden. Solid play of Kieran Byrnes, Michael Collins, Mark DeSantis, Patrick Finneran, Cody George, Matt Kelly, Drew Kiley, Jay Michael MacIntyre, Tim McDonagh, Kevin Mullin and Luke Zeccola made this team the best in the Division. Patrick Finneran and Kevin Mullin are expected off the DL to give the boys a push during the playoffs.........GRANVILLE 5TH BOYS finished the season strongly on Sun March 16th by beating Manhasset and securing a number one playoff seed in their I division. The team was led by Jack Tigh's and Tom Tubridy's aggressive back door cuts while Jonathan Granville and Pat Gibbons made pinpoint passes throughout the season. Both the offensive and defensive boards were controlled by Connor Muldoon, Brian Goulard and Tom Wright with

this trio also contributing to the scoring effort. Colin DeAngelo, BobbyClarke and Chris Larkin spearheaded the perimeter offense with silky smooth jumpers. The team, coached by Tom Granville and Eamon Tubridy is now preparing hopefully for a long playoff run.........RAPHAEL 5TH GIRLS started the season 0-2, and since then are 12-3 and headed for playoffs. As a team we have made enormous progress, and each and every player has made solid contributions. Our best game of the year was against a Jericho team that had beaten us 18-6. We played them on their home court and our defense was relentless. We full-court pressed them the entire game and reversed the score of the earlier loss by winning 18-7. We were led in scoring that game by Becky Reifler, Alexis Leighton and Shannon Raphael. The girls have improved dramatically, and their skills are superb. Consistently, our playmakers and assist leaders are Anne Marie Kane, Samantha Auricchio and Johanna Sokolovic. We are usually led in scoring by Kelly McDonnell, Alexis Leighton and Becky Reifler. Our best rebounders and defenders are Shannon Raphael, Morgayne Rix and Gianna Esposito, and when she is healthy, Katie Roscoe is a terrific scorer and defender. This terrific season has been a total team effort, and we look forward to the playoffs............BASEL 5TH GIRLS have continued to improve as the season progressed, led by the pressing defense of Cailee McCarthy. Laurel Nothel and Laurel Fisher. With Kathleen Burke, Fiona MacLeod and Alison Hoge scoring and Emily Basile, Kerriann Erenwein and Ari Kerantzas rebounding this team looks forward to finishing strong. Thanks to the ballhandling of Leslie Wann, Emma Basel and Meaghan Fitzgerald this team will be a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs !!!!...........CAPETOLA 4TH BOYS concluded the regular season at 16-3, easily locking up the #1 seed for their upcoming playoffs............For a complete listing of playoff brackets with game dates and times please check the league website at www.IslandGarden.com.
