GCAA-Basketball- 2nd Grade Boys Spurs
The 2nd grade GCAA Spurs completed their 15 game season on Sat March 15th. The growth of these 2nd graders, now playing real games on 10 foot rims within a six team 12 player per roster division, was incredible. We started season with clinics and short games on 8 foot baskets without keeping score and progressed to what resembled a competitive basketball game by the end of season. Going into the last game, the Spurs were riding a 3 game winning streak only to have it snapped by a strong Lakers team in a scintillating 28-26 nail biter that came down to the final shot. GCAA is the only basketball organization in town that has 2nd graders playing actual games with scoreclocks and referees. The Spurs were led by the fastbreaking Matthew DeSimpliciis and Lucas Franco while Ryan Trabold and Christian Faulisi crashed the boards with reckless abandon. The inside/outside game of Matthew Granville and Brian Greene contributed to a potent offensive attack which was complemented by an interior defensive force spearheaded by George Germano and Thomas Grlic. Garrett Going and Colin Jessup filled up the nets with silky smooth long range jumpers while Andrew and Derek Tang knocked down mid range shots with regularity. The team, coached by Tom Granville, Chris Trabold, Mike Franco and Tom DeSimpliciis, is looking forward to even more exciting GCAA basketball in 2008-2009. Look for updates on the GCAA website, www.gc-aa.com, Thank you to John Gallagher and Brendan Wootten for coordinating the 2nd grade boys this year.
