Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem On March 5, 8 PM, police arrested a 35-year-old Massapequa man for alleged DWI (refusal), also a felony because of a prior DWI incident, after he was involved in a 2-car accident on Old Country Road, where he and the driver of the other car ended up being taken to Winthrop Hospital for facial injuries...On March 11, daytime, a woman gave a bad card as payment for a new tire at the Mobil station at Franklin Avenue, and when she was denied, she fled the scene...On the same day, at Pay/half, Franklin Avenue, 4:30 PM, a man was seen stealing 12 pairs of South Pole shorts valued at $18 each, before leaving the store. An investigation continues...PO Sommer arrested a 47-year-old Glen Cove woman for alleged larceny of $454 in items that included a Kate Hill Shirt, an Anne Klein shirt, and Felina intimates at Lord and Taylor, on March 7...On March 10, 1:10 AM, PO K.Wehr and PO Reynolds responded to the report of a car alarm at Sackville Rd., and they found several cars with their inside lights on. After determining that larcenies had just occurred, they apprehended a 22-year-old Bellrose Queens man nearby on Kildare Road. He was arrested on one count of grand larceny and 2 counts of petit larceny for having stolen a Sirius satellite radio and coins from one car at Sackville Rd., credit cards from another car there, and a $250 Tom Tom from a car parked at Tullamore Rd...A 51-year-old Flushing man was arrested for the violation of an order of protection against his ex-wife at County Seat Drive on March 7 at 10:30 AM.It seems he tried to run her car off the road... On the same day, 5:15 AM, PO Hennessy observed a 27-year-old Elmont man driving over lane markings on Seventh Street/Franklin Ave. He was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation, 2nd degree (8 suspensions, 7 dates) and for an outstanding 2007 traffic warrant from Nassau County. He also had improper plates, no inspection, no insurance, no registration, and unsafe lane change...On March 6, detectives Madden and Marceda arrested a 43-year-old Freeport man for the alleged petit larceny he had committed back in October 2007 of 3 packages of cologne valued at $195 at Sears...On March 8, 2 different nail salons on Franklin Avenue, reported the theft of handbags between 9 am and noon. Credit cards were in both bags, and thus both were grand larcenies... PO Oswald and PO K. Wehr arrived at the Uptown Grille for the report of a possible stolen car there on March 9. Evidently, a woman took a car that had been warmed up by its owner. The owner had come upon the thief but could not deter her, and later the car was found at the residence of her friend. The woman, a 20-year-old GC female, was charged with grand larceny and DWI (refusal). She had a suspended license for DWI...A truck stop was held on NHP Road on March 6, with 40 tickets issued, 8 trucks inspected, with 6 weight violations... Fire Responses: A gas stove top partially burned a pot handle at a GC residence on March 6... LIPA was notified to respond to the scene of an odor at a Rockaway Avenue house on March 7... Wires arced at a pole at Glen Road on March 8... Fans were used to ventilate a gas leak at Franklin Ave. on March 9... A low hanging telephone wire was raised at Old Country Rd. on March 9. Verizon was notified...FD notified LIPA that there were wires missing insulation at a rear property line at Hampton Road on March 9... That's all this week. G. T.
