Firefighters Extricate Accident Victim

After door removal, firefighters gain access to passenger.
On Saturday night, March 1st, Garden City firefighters were alerted for their "Jaws of Life" rescue equipment needed at a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Nassau Boulevard. The Garden City Police had arrived on scene of the accident and requested the Fire Department for their hydraulic rescue equipment to rescue a trapped occupant. Rescue 146 and Engine 142 were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival on scene, Fire Chief John Casey advised responding units that he had a female passenger trapped on the passenger side of the vehicle and that the firefighters would have to conduct a door removal. Immediately after the dispatch of the alarm, a crew of volunteer firefighters in headquarters responded with Rescue 146 to the scene. Under the direction of Fire Rescue Lieutenant Matthew Tittler, Firefighters Dan Roe and Robert Horvath utilized the Holmatro Rescue tools to free the female passenger. The firefighters utilized the full array of rescue equipment on the truck to remove the car door. While the extrication was conducted, Garden City Police Officers as well as Nassau County emergency medical technicians stabilized the accident victims. Two patients were transported to area hospitals for treatment and evaluation.
