Hairspray Wednesday, February 20 at 6:30 PM the Young Adult Department will be showing the 2006 hit movie Hairspray for all in grades 6-12. This movie is rated PG-13 and stars Tom Cruise, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ving Rhames, Billy Crudup and Michelle Monoghan. Great music, great drama, laughs and adventure await all who come to this February Break showing. Refreshments will be served. Please register so that there will be snacks and drinks for all. Registration began Wednesday, February 6th. Log on through the library's web site, simply use your library card number and you are on your way to solving those homework dilemmas Garden City Public Library News FREE MUSICAL TRIBUTE "EVERYTHING IS ROSIE" A FREE musical tribute to Rosemary Clooney "Everything is Rosie" will be presented by the sensational singers Stan Edwards & Linda Ipanema at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Garden City Public Library, located at 60 Seventh Street, Garden City, NY. Come and enjoy the legendary songs by one of America's favorite singers. Band accompaniment by musicians: Don Edmonds, piano; Art Lillard, drums; Dimitri Kolesnick, bass; and Tom Olin, clarinet/sax. Hear light-hearted hits such as Come On-A My House; Botch-A-Me; This Ole House; and Mambo Italiano to tender love songs: Hey There; Half As Much; Mixed Emotions; and more! OIL PAINTING EXHIBITION: "FACES & PLACES" An exhibition entitled "Faces & Places" will be displayed at the Garden City Public Library's gallery from March 2 to 28, 2008. See oil paintings by five talented Port Washington artists who create their work in the same art studio" Susan Willard, Barbara LaMotta, Seymour Waltzer, Harry Beck, and Caroline Mongo. GARDEN CITY GIRL SCOUTS PRESENTS A SHOWCASE DISPLAY The Garden City Girl Scouts will display a history of the Girl Scouts and information about their organization in the Garden City Public Library showcases from March 2 to 28, 2008. This exhibit will represent 47 troops including: Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette and Senior. A variety of handmade crafts created by local troops will be included. Library Closed The Garden City Public Library will be closed on Sunday, February 17 and Monday, February 18 in observance of Presidents' Day. News From The Children's Room Family Puppet Show and Movie February 19 at 11:00 AM the library will present a puppet show by Liz Joyce and Goat on a Boat! No registration is necessary. For the entire family! Join us for a special showing of the movie Snow Buddies on Thursday, February 21st at 11 AM. This direct-to-video movie is a sequel to last year's Air Buddies. In this one, the five pups find themselves in Alaska, where they are soon befriended by Shasta, a Husky pup, and his owner, a young boy named Adam. Come see what Adam's big dreams are! Featuring the voices of Jim Belushi, Lothaire Bluteau, Whoopi Goldberg, John Kapelos, Molly Shannon, and Cynthia Stevenson.
Story Times and Book Discussions Winter story times continue with some openings still available. Book club discussions continue on in February starting with the Second Grade, Chapter Chats reading and discussing the book Horrible Harry and the Kickball Wedding by Suzy Kline on February 13; New Friends In A Book (3rd Graders) on February 27 with the book Third Grade Detectives "Cobweb Confession" by George E. Stanley; Go Forth (4th Graders) on February 27 with the book Granny Torrelli Makes Soup by Sharon Creech; and Page Turners (5th Graders) on February 25th with the book Report Card by Andrew Clements.
