GCHS Cheerleaders Place 2nd and 3rd in Competition

The GCHS Varsity cheerleaders perform a megastunt at the Wantagh High School cheer competition, where they placed third.
Garden City High School's Varsity and Junior Varsity cheerleading squads had an outstanding showing at a recent cheer competition sponsored by Wantagh High School. The GCHS Varsity squad placed third in the large varsity division and the JV squad captured second place honors in the junior varsity division. The Varsity squad also won the competition's coveted spirit award for displaying the most enthusiasm and sportsmanship.

The Varsity squad also placed third at a competition on December 2 at Valley Stream North High School, and the JV squad took fourth place at the Long Island Cheerleading Coaches Association competition at Mt. Sinai High School on December 9.

While winter cheer competitions are over for the squads, both teams will continue cheering at the remaining home basketball games. Tryouts for the 2008-2009 Varsity and JV cheerleading teams will be held in late March (watch The Garden City News for more details on tryouts), and then the girls will begin planning and preparing for their annual Cheer Clinic on May 3. Congratulations to both squads for their exceptional cheering this school year.

Annie McDonald, Varsity cheerleader, and Sara Tucci, Varsity Coach, jubilantly hold the trophies won by the Varsity squad at the Wantagh High School cheer competition.
