Tea And Cookies From The Garden Imagine gathering fresh herbs and flowers from your garden to brew a delicious pot of tea and to flavor a batch of cookies. On Monday, January 28, the Great Neck Garden Club will present Carol Kunz Zambraski who will describe how to plan and plant a "Tea and Cookies" garden. The program begins at 1 p.m. at Great Neck House and is open to the public free of charge. Those who are interested in membership in the Garden Club are always welcome as well. Herbal teas blended from fresh or dried leaves, seeds or flowers are easy to prepare. Whether one is warmed with a hot fragrant brew on a cold winter's day or relaxes with a cold pitcher of iced herbal tea to relieve the summer's heat, these beverages offer the added advantage of being theine-free (chemically identical to caffeine in coffee) and they contain no tannin. Plant selection, harvesting and tea brewing techniques will be discussed. Tastings and recipes for tea and cookies will be shared. Carolyn Kunz Zambraski is a professional horticulturist and holds a degree in floriculture from the State University of New York. She has spent 25 years working in the horticultural industry, is a member of Master Nursery, Inc., manager of Kunz Greenhouses and a recognized Ortho Professional. Carolyn enjoys sharing her knowledge of gardening by lecturing on a wide range of related subjects. She is a member of L.I. Horticulture Society, Bayard Cuttring Arboretum, The Herb Association of L.I. and past president of "Sage Growers," a group dedicated to the use and culture of herbs. The Great Neck Garden Club is a member of the Second District of the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State and National Garden Clubs, Inc., the largest volunteer gardening organization in the country. Future Great Neck Garden Club programs will include "Garden Happenings, Barely Hidden, Rarely Seen," a slide presentation by Millie Hendricks on February 25th; and "Awakening the Garden and Weed Control Schedule," a talk by Tamson Yeh, educator from Cornell Cooperative Extension on March 17th.
