Village Sports The Garden City Recreation Department has secured tickets to the New York Islanders home game on Tuesday, February 5 th vs. the 2007 Stanley Cup Champions, the Anaheim Ducks. Come see Rick DiPietro and the rest of the Islanders take on the high flying Ducks with this special offer. Tickets will sell for $30.00 (regularly $60) on a first come first serve basis. To purchase tickets, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall - cash only please ! The deadline to purchase tickets will be Monday January 28th. family movie showing The Recreation Department is pleased to be showing "Shrek the Third" at St. Paul's Cluett Hall on Sunday, January 27 at 1 p.m. The movie runs approximately 92 minutes and admission is free. Soda and snacks will be available for a nominal charge. For further information please call the Recreation Office at 465-4075. magic the dog The ever popular "Magic the Dog" will visit Cluett Hall on Sunday, February 3 rd at 1 p.m. This family show is not to be missed, with Magic performing a magical routine that will delight the whole family. Admission to this show will be $2.00 and reservations are necessary. Please call the Recreation Office at 465-4075 to make a reservation by Friday, February 1st. Middle School rec nights The Garden City Recreation Department is sponsoring a "Rec. Night" for Middle Schoolers on the following dates in St. Paul's Field House: Friday, January 11th - 7th and 8th graders Friday, January 25th - 6th graders Friday, February 8th - 6th graders Friday, February 29th - 7th and 8th graders These parties will be chaperoned by the recreation staff and will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5.00. A DJ will provide music and refreshments will be available for a nominal charge. The gym will be open for basketball, volleyball, dancing and other games. Note- Once the children are in the field house, they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by an adult. Please come down to the field house to pick up your child. round robin tennis program open house The Recreation Program is pleased to announce our Open House day for Round Robin Tennis play. This event will be held at Community Park on Sunday Jan 27 th at 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and is free of charge. All GC residents ages 8 and over who are able to serve, keep score and keep a slow paced rally are eligible to participate. The program this event is showcasing is designed to advance a child who has taken lessons in the past or is taking lessons now to the next level by providing a venue for actual match play in a low key competitive environment. Our Round Robin Tennis Program runs 10 weeks and costs $160. Please fill out a completed interest sheet prior to the event and drop it off at the Recreation Department. Any questions please contact the Recreation Office at 465-4075. it's not too late for children's tennis There is still time to sign up for limited openings available in our Junior Tennis Program at Community Park. Residents ages 5-18 are eligible for this program. Please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall to register. The cost of program varies with level and duration of lessons. The following days and times are available: PeeWee - ages 5-7 with no experience Wednesdays at 3:30 or 4:30 p.m. Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Novice - ages 6-7 with tennis experience Mondays at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. Junior - ages 8-11 with no or limited experience Mondays at 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. Senior - ages 12-18 with no or limited experience Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. Saturdays at 12:30 p.m. Senior Advanced - ages 12-18 with tennis experience Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. family fun time on sundays On Sunday afternoons beginning January 6, the St. Paul's Field House will be open for "Family Fun" for Village families. This open time provides the opportunity for families to enjoy various gym activities in an indoor environment.The gym will be available for use from noon to 3:30 p.m. each Sunday until March. This time is designated for our residents to use on a family or individual basis. No organized practices or workouts will be allowed. Although there will be staff to monitor activity, this is not a drop off program. We ask the elementary aged children be accompanied by an adult. For the safety of our users, no lacrosse or baseball will be allowed. winter chess club begins The Garden City Recreation Department is sponsoring a Chess Club for children in grades 3-6. This free program will run on Saturdays from noon to 2 p.m. at the Garden City Library's Small Meeting Room. The program begins on January 12 th and will run through March. Players at all levels of experience are invited to attend. For further information, please call 465-4075. winter yoga at cluett Hall Our winter session of Yoga will begin the week of January 28 th. Connie McKnight, our certified Yoga instructor, has designed classes with all ages in mind. Each 12 week course will cost $60 and each class is 55 minutes long. All classes are held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. Any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes. The course schedule is as follows: Mondays All level Yoga at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays All level Yoga at11:30 a.m. To register, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall. saturday morning BASKETBALL for men The Recreation Department will begin its Saturday morning Men's Basketball Program this Saturday, December 1 st in the Garden City Middle School's south gym. The program runs from 9 a.m. to noon and is open to men aged 19 and older who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The games are strictly "pick up" and entry is free. Middle And High School Open Gym Our Middle/High School Open Gym Program will now continue on the following days and times - Wednesdays from 3:30 - 6 p.mBasketball Thursdays from 3:30 - 6 p.m. Basketball and Volleyball Tuesdays are no longer available do to the start of our elementary school program. Games are strictly pickup. This time is set aside for students to enjoy activities with their friends in a supervised setting. No organized practices or parents are allowed during this time . adult swim at adelphi The Recreation Department's adult swim program has begun at Adelphi's indoor pool located in Woodruff Hall. This free program is open to any adult resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City, aged 18 or older. The program is open to residents for lap swimming on Mondays through Thursdays in one hour time blocks at 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Anyone interested in this program must sign up through the Recreation Office. You must register each day you would like to swim by calling the Recreation Office at 465-4075. No reservations will be taken ahead of time and space is limited.
aerobic classes in cluett hall The following aerobic classes have been suspended due to an injury to the instructor:Thursdays at 7 pm Sundays at 9 am It is expected that these classes will resume some time in March.
