Theater Students Attend Conference
The conference gave more than 700 student attendees the opportunity to participate in more than 75 different workshops that covered every aspect of theater, from Shakespeare and improvisation to stage lighting, makeup effects, playwriting, stage combat and musical theater dance. Sessions were taught by theater educators and professionals, including teachers from high schools and colleges all over the state. Students also had the opportunity to enter and witness monologue, scene and playwriting competitions and meet with a large number of college and university representatives. The conference was sponsored by NYSTEA, a theater education advocacy group that promotes teaching theater in schools. This was Garden City's first time at the conference. The students had a great experience, and participation in next year's event is planned.
