The Popp Family Singers will appear in the Sanctuary of the Garden City Community Church on January 10 at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
The Popp Family Singers are from Fuerstenwalde, Germany, about 15 Km outside of Berlin. Georg is the Cathedral Cantor of St. Mary's Cathedral in Fuerstenwalde. The Protestant Cathedral of St. Mary's is part of the Evangelical Church of Berlin Brandenburg which has had full communion with the United Church of Christ since the early 1980's. The Popp family takes a yearly European concert tour during the Christmas break, offering classical and Christmas music on piano, brass, organ, recorder and a cappella voice performance. The family consists of Father and Mother, Georg and Cornelia, three sons, Matthias (18), Paul (19), Philipp (21), and two daughters, Ursula (14) and Ulrike (16). Some of their normal pieces are J.S. Bach "Magnificat," "Von Himmel hoch, da komm ich her," "In dulci jubilo," "Ich steh an deiner Krippen hier," Handel; W. A. Mozart; as well as traditional German folk and Christmas songs. This year may be their last year touring since several of the children are going off to university and they wanted to come not only to America but to come to their partner churches in the UCC. The tour is sponsored by the Penn Central Conference/German Partnership Committee of the United Church of Christ. A freewill offering will be taken to help defray their travel expenses.
