The Nominating Committee of Garden City Estates (Estates Nom Comm) announces that at the Nominating Committee meeting held on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, the Estates Nom Comm formally nominated

Mr. Robert Rothschild for Mayoral Candidate for the Incorporated Village of Garden City for a Two Year term ending March 2011.

Mr. Rothschild lives at 124 Salisbury Avenue in the Estates section. He has been a village resident since 1983. Rob has been very active in the Estates POA and Village for many years. He has been a Village Trustee since 2003. Mr. Rothschild served as President of the Estates POA from 1997 to 1999. In 2007, he was selected as the "Citizen of the Year" for the Garden City Chamber of Commerce. He serves as an officer of the Cherry Valley Club located in Garden City. Mr. Rothschild is employed as Senior Vice President - Chief Lender of the Real Estate Division of Signature Bank. Mr. Rothschild graduated from St. John's University and has an MBA in Finance. His two daughters attended public schools in Garden City. His wife, Valerie, is a practicing real estate attorney for an internationally known real estate company.

In compliance with the by-laws of the Property Owners' Association of Garden City Estates (Estates POA), an announcement was made in the Garden City News and in the Estates POA newsletter requesting information and resume of qualifications of Estates residents to be submitted to the Estates Nom Comm for candidate consideration. Applications were received for Mayor and Trustee since there was a possibility that both seats would be up for election.

The Estates section had the potential of two positions being up for election (Trustee and Mayor). Since our senior trustee (John Mauk) removed his name for consideration for mayor, and our other trustee (Rob Rothschild) agreed to serve as mayor if nominated and elected, the Estates only has one position available for election (Village Mayor). John Mauk's term as trustee does not expire until 2010, while Rob Rothschild's term expires in 2009. The Mayor position is designated within the Estates. The expiring trustee's two-year term position is available for the open two-year term Mayor's position within the Estates Section of the Village.

This announcement serves as notice of the Nominating Committee of Garden City Estates' nominee for Mayoral Candidate. This announcement will be formally presented at the Electors Meeting for the Estates Section which will be held on Tuesday January 20, 2009. At that meeting, all residents of Garden City Estates may come to vote to support the nomination. Once voted in as the Mayoral Candidate, Mr. Rothschild will be endorsed by the other sections, and will go on the Community Agreement Party Slate for village-wide election in March. Or at the Electors' Meeting, Estates residents may present an alternate nominee of any resident in the Estates Section by presenting a petition of 15 names of Estates residents (a challenge). If there is a challenge, then a runoff election will be held at a special meeting on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 to determine the Mayoral Candidate. All residents of Garden City Estates may come to vote at that time. The candidate with the majority votes becomes the Mayoral Candidate, and is endorsed by the other sections and goes on the Community Agreement Party Slate for village-wide election in March.
