Village Clerk Earns Designation By Stephanie Mariel
Petrellese
Village Clerk Brian Ridgway recently earned the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.
The CMC designation program is designed to enhance the job performance of the clerk in small and large municipalities. To earn the CMC designation, Ridgway had to attend extensive education programs. The designation also requires pertinent experience in a municipality.
The program prepares participants to meet the challenges of their job by providing education in partnership with 47 institutions of higher learning. The program was instituted in 1970, and has since helped thousands of clerks in various municipalities.
Ridgway, a Garden City resident, has been clerk in the Village of Garden City since 2000. He was the clerk and treasurer for the Village of Mineola from 1997 to 2000. Prior to that, he worked for the IBM Corporation from 1980 to 1996.
He has been a member of the Garden City Fire Dept. for 31 years. He served as chief from 1998 to 1999. He is a 1977 graduate of Garden City High School and received a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Adelphi University.
Ridgway is currently president of the New York State Association of City & Village Clerks. He was president of the Long Island Village Clerks & Treasurers Association from 2004 to 2006.
