William Highfill, social studies teacher at Garden City High School, was recently awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award by Union College. Mr. Highfill was nominated by a former student and graduate of Garden City High School, Ryan Dowling, and presented the award at the November meeting of the high school faculty and staff. "I was honored to be recognized by Union College," commented Mr. Highfill. "However, I feel that Ryan Dowling (the nominating student) was someone who showed up every day with an enthusiasm and excitement for education. I was thankful that he recognized me, but I have been more thankful for what he brought to my U.S. History and Economics classes.
