Homestead Kindergartners Cheer Young Patients

2008-12-19 / School

We want to cheer the kids up in the hospital, so we painted a giant apple for their playroom," stated one kindergartner in Donna Welch's class at the Homestead School. "They can pretend that they are outside near an apple tree," another child remarked. These students are learning about helping others by painting large murals and sending them to cheer young patients in a local hospital. "All together with teamwork," Ms. Welch commented, "we created a beautiful apple for the Recreation Center at Schneider Children's Hospital."

Each month the students are painting a new mural focused on a seasonal theme to send to the hospital. For October, the children are creating the Great Pumpkin.

"We can make them smile and feel so happy in the hospital. We want to help."
